Julia Fox’s 19th-century Harlem brownstone is full of historic charm: intricately carved wooden fireplaces, aged hardwood floors, and, possibly, the ghost of a former tenant. “I was being drawn to this home, and then, when I bought it, I went downstairs and there was a whole shrine set up to the ghost that lives there,” the model and Uncut Gems actor explained in an interview to promote Steven Soderbergh’s film Presence, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival over the weekend. “She’s the matriarch of the home. She watches over us,” continued Fox, who plays the role of a haunted-house-selling real estate agent in the film, according to Vulture. It’s worthwhile to note that, according to the publication, the haunting echoes a plot point from Presence.

Though unconfirmed, it’s been speculated that the eccentric fashion star was referring to the four-story Neoclassical Revival town house that she bought last May with her friend and fellow model, Richie Shazam Khan, for $2.9 million. The 1888-built structure features a 1,200-square-foot unfinished cellar where Fox presumably found the shrine. The listing (unsurprisingly) doesn’t offer photos of that level, so we can neither confirm nor deny the presence of the shrine.

Fox has become known for her candor about her living situations. Last year, she gave fans on TikTok the inside scoop on her former NYC apartment, where she experienced a mouse problem. The star also showed fans how she had converted the living room into her bedroom prior to the purchase of her upgraded Harlem digs.

In a video filmed on the Sundance red carpet, Fox revealed her ghostly roommate’s name: “Beauty.” She goes on to claim that the apparition “lived in the house for pretty much her whole life…and my son sees her all the time, but she’s a nice ghost, so we’re not worried.”

The seven-bedroom, five-bathroom residence has nearly 6,000 square feet across its four floors, so luckily there’s room to spread out—even with the presence of an extra entity. Other highlights include updated kitchens, a cute backyard patio, and a few tasteful swaths of exposed brick lit by oversized windows.
