Chair: The Dune Chair, Performance Textured Linen in Pearl
The details: Maiden Home was born in 2017. At the time, the founder, Nidhi Kapur, was outfitting the first apartment she owned with her husband and found herself ready to ditch the disposable furniture of her youth with more intentional, high-quality pieces. Thus came the vision: handcrafted luxury for the modern home, pairing an intentional design process with the heritage techniques of North Carolina furniture artisans. Each piece is direct-to-consumer and made to order, designed in the brand’s New York studio and brought to life by American artisan partners.

Order Process
Price: How much does it cost? Are there payment plans available?
The price ranges from $1,925 to $2,565. You can pay through Affirm as well with payments starting at $174 per month or 0% APR.
What are the upholstery or customization options? Did you choose any? Are there free swatch options available?
The slipcovered Dune Chair is full of customization options, which includes a variety of fabrics like Performance Woven Chenille, Performance Linen, Performance Textured Linen, Performance Stonewashed Linen, and Belgian Linen (each fabric choice has four to five neutral color options). The chair can have a 32- or 37-inch depth and a swivel base option. You can order a complimentary swatch kit, and it will arrive in approximately one week.
What is the lead time for customization, manufacturing, and delivery?
A customized chair takes about five to six weeks. Once you place your order, you receive “Build Updates,” so you can follow along as your piece comes to life. From there, the chair takes about two to four weeks for delivery, depending on your location. It’s easy to reach out to the company prior to placing your order for an estimate of your shipping timeline. Maiden Home also sells ready-to-ship chairs that take about two weeks for delivery.
After delivery
What are the dimensions? How does it fit in your space? Would it be better suited for a different type of home?
I received the smaller of the two Dune Chairs, with dimensions of 34"D x 32"W x 34"H, so it’s almost a cube. I often find new furniture to be too big for my home, which is a 1,400-square-foot cottagey space, but this chair was surprisingly (in a good way) a great fit. The chair feels like a nice neutral piece that would work as a main attraction in a living room or a cozy addition to a bedroom—making it very suitable for a variety of spaces.
Sit Test: Is it comfortable? Does it feel well made? Does the chair have a tendency to sag?
The first thing that struck me was the height of the seat. I feel very high and upright in the chair, as it’s much taller than any of the sofas and accent chairs in the rest of my house. So far the chair feels well made and doesn’t seem like it’ll sag anytime soon. Because of the more upright nature of the chair, I find myself taking a seat with better posture. It’s not a chair for throwing your leg over the arm or deeply sinking into. The chair is very comfortable, though I hope it will soften a bit overtime.
Is the chair suitable for particular decor styles, and if so, which?
The chair looks quite modern, but could fit just as easily in a country cottage with some blankets thrown over the back or a chic city apartment. It’s a great option for a lover of minimalism, but also for someone who likes cozy accents.
Is it durable/practical in a modern home?
Since the chair can be covered in so many different performance fabrics, which are resistant to stains and spills, the chair seems like it will hold up to practical living. You can also replace the slipcovers and spot-clean the fabric, which is always a plus in my book.
Is the chair kid and/or dog friendly?
If I were a child, the swivel base would have me hooked on this chair (I also find myself feeling very childlike when I spin around in the seat), and the soft corners seem like a great option for families. Again, the performance fabrics seem like they’ll hold up to living with kids and pets—my cats are big fans of the chair already.
What are the care and cleaning instructions? Do you think stains could be easily removed?
Maiden Home’s Dune Collection is made for easy maintenance. As mentioned above, the slipcover comes in a selection of Performance fabrics, which are resistant to stains and spills. Liquid spills will bead up on the surface and can be easily spot cleaned using a cleaning solution of mild detergent and water. Plus, the covers can be removed and machine washed at home.
Do the photos do this product justice? Was there anything you were surprised to see IRL?
The photos do the product justice! I found the chair much lighter than anticipated (two people can carry it up a staircase with ease) and more compact, but those were pleasant surprises! I’ve continued to enjoy it from discovery to sitting in my home.
