Emma Stone is a notoriously talented chameleon of an actor. The Oscar winner has played a starry-eyed dreamer, a comic book heroine, an unwitting pharmaceutical test subject, and a young Cruella de Vil, but her latest role has brought her into the home improvement space. Stone currently stars in Showtime’s dark comedy The Curse opposite Canadian humorist Nathan Fielder. The pair play newlyweds who are bent on bringing eco-friendly homes to Española, New Mexico, while also filming their HGTV-style reality show, Flipanthropy. And while Stone hasn’t (yet) expressed interest in hosting her own house-flipping series in real life, the actor has an extremely sharp eye when it comes to real estate. The Arizona native has owned homes in New York City, Los Angeles, and most recently Austin, each property boasting a unique vibe and aesthetic, much like her varied roles. Below, we’re sharing a glimpse into each of Stone’s residences, past and present.
2012
Shortly after meeting on the set of The Amazing Spider-Man in 2011, Stone and then costar Andrew Garfield began dating. The pair moved into a New York City town house together not long afterward, renting one of five units in the building for an undisclosed amount. The Chelsea pad, originally built in 1835, featured many original details, including crown molding and mantles, mahogany doors, wide-plank pine flooring, and an elegant grand staircase. Ten wood-burning fireplaces were spread out across the 9,000-square-foot property. The building also boasted high ceilings, an elevator, a ground-floor garden, outdoor terraces, and a rooftop patio. Other celebrities who called the town house home at different points include Jason Statham and Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Courtney Love, Olivier Sarkozy, and Glenn Close. Stone and Garfield split in 2015; the town house was listed for $18.75 million in 2017.
That same year, Stone set down roots on the west coast with the purchase of a $2.477 million traditional-style home in Beverly Hills. The charming one-story pad had quite the celebrity pedigree: It previously belonged to British actor and bon vivant Dudley Moore, and Stone purchased it from Australian film editor Kirk Baxter. The four-bedroom, four-and-a-half-bathroom residence measured 3,862 square feet and was perhaps most memorable for its unique, colorful wallpaper. The front foyer, for instance, was decked out in a red-and-white geometric print, and a formal dining space was outfitted with lime green patterned walls. A combination living-and-dining area had a double-height ceiling with a quirky, vibrantly hued chandelier and an asymmetrical white brick fireplace. Stone ultimately listed the property for $3.899 million in 2019 and sold it for exactly her asking price just one month later.
2016
Stone’s next purchase was a modest one-bedroom condo in a West Village building designed by Emery Roth, for which she paid $2.4 million. The actor appeared to use the pad primarily as a pied-à-terre, and she listed it just two years later for $2.65 million. When she failed to find a buyer, she pulled the unit from the market, only to list it again in 2019 with the lowered price of $2.495 million. She even sought to rent it out for $6,000 a month during the pandemic. The Poor Things star put it up for sale again in August 2021 and finally sold it for a slight loss at $2.25 million toward the end of the year.
2018
Stone nabbed a $3.6 million condo that is reportedly perched atop a historic boutique hotel in NYC’s Financial District. Not many other details are known about the property, but it appears that the actor still owns it.
That same year, she dropped $3.25 million for a midcentury-style blufftop mansion in Malibu, which a realtor said looked like the “Malibu beach house they would choose for a Nancy Meyers movie.” The property, which featured unobstructed views of the Pacific Ocean, measured 1,700 square feet and boasted three bedrooms and two bathrooms. Aesthetically speaking, the space was bright and airy, with white walls, high ceilings, and large windows throughout. The eat-in kitchen (key to any Nancy Meyers–esque home) was resplendent with white and gold details. The primary suite, tucked into a corner of the ranch-style home, had glass sliders on two of its four walls. After Stone’s life pulled her in a different direction, she listed the dream home for $4.3 million in 2022. She sold it for $4.425 million just one week later.
2019
Stone next purchased a 1920s Spanish-style cottage in the Westwood neighborhood of Los Angeles for $2.3 million. The actor reportedly snagged the 2,300-square-foot property for a family member, and still owns it to this day. There are dark hardwood floors throughout the residence, exposed wood-beamed ceilings, and arched doorways in a classic Spanish style. There are three bedrooms spread across two floors, as well as a backyard with a blue-tiled pool, patio, and guesthouse. The home is a short drive to Beverly Hills and a short walk from the Los Angeles Country Club.
2021
In 2020, Emma Stone and her beau, comedian and writer Dave McCary, quietly tied the knot, and the following year, they welcomed their first child together, daughter Louise Jean McCary. The new parents then moved their little family of three out of California to Austin, Texas. The pair’s four-bedroom, three-and-a-half-bathroom traditional-style home most likely cost between $7 and $8 million, according to reports, and measures 5,000 square feet. The main residence features a brick exterior accented by crisp blue shutters and framed by mature evergreen trees. There is a detached garage and a large swimming pool out back. This is the couple’s primary residence.
