Leading paint brand Dunn-Edwards has announced that Art and Craft is its 2022 color of the year. The choice emerges from their 2022 color + design trends “Naturrensing” palette, a collection of down-to-earth shades focused on grounding and rebirth.
An earthy yet relatively radiant shade of brown, Art and Craft is a was inspired in part by 20th-century bohemian chic as well as today’s folk-inspired and cottagecore trends. It also can’t help but bring to mind the stylistic choices of the 1970s.

Dunn-Edwards sees Art and Craft as a restorative shade meant to evoke a sense of wonder. “Optimism means embracing reality and new opportunities,” Sarah McLean, Dunn-Edwards’s color expert and stylist said in a statement. “We see our color and design choices mirroring our inner needs as we are challenged to build new paths. Art and Craft is a timeless shade that embodies both the past as well as the optimism and excitement for the future.”
Recently, the annual color of the year selections have been awash in a sea of greens. But Dunn-Edwards’s choice reminds us that everything that blooms has to spring from the soil first. “This is a versatile color that we expect to see applied across a variety of industries and disciplines throughout 2022,” McLean stated. The color professional went on to add: “I see. . . a touch of autumn in Paris. Art and Craft is truly a down-to-earth color that signifies stability, comfort, and calm. [It is] a color that expresses what we all seek right now.”
