Hi, I’m digital design writer Zoë Sessums. Follow along each week as I try my hand at a DIY project in and around my house. I’ll cover the inspiration, expert advice, and step-by-step plans of everything from challenging builds to simple renovations. This month’s undertaking: A laundry room makeover!

Last week, I shared my plan for preparing my laundry room for the new LG WashTower I selected. Now, the shopping list I used for the room revamp and the final reveal are here. Ultimately, the project boiled down to a massive edit, reorganization session, a fresh coat of paint, and going from an old side-by-side washer and dryer set to a new, efficient, stacking unit. While I think one could tackle this project in a weekend, I decided to take my time with it and carry out the different tasks over a couple of weeks. I was able to really organize my canned goods nicely, fold (and refold) my fitted sheets, and make sure the room got all the coats of paint it needed (three to be exact).

Check out the final result and maybe even give yourself the push to refresh a laundry room, linen closet, or pantry in your own space.

The supply list

For this project, I sourced all of the materials either online or at the nearby Lowe’s. For the storage containers, the sky’s the limit, so find ones that get you excited or match your aesthetic. Whatever you choose, just make sure you’ve measured the shelf spacing and container dimensions—not everything is made to fit.

The final installation

After the area was prepared—which included removing everything from the laundry room and painting all the walls in Ivy Pasture green paint—we were ready to get the new unit in. The delivery team brought the new washer-dryer into the space and I supervised a more skilled professional who installed the new dryer vent. Handing over tools and making sure the positioning of the machine was just right (and level) were my contributions since I don’t have the brawn for lifting that much weight.

After the LG WashTower was hooked up, in went the shelving units. From there, I was able to start with a clean slate, adding in all my new organizational containers, perfectly folded linens, and pantry goods.

BEFORE: This was the laundry room when I moved into my house.

BEFORE: This was the disaster it became when I tried to cram too many things on the shelves.

The complete laundry room

Here it is in all its green glory:

AFTER: Not only does the room look so much better and more vibrant, but I actually find joy every time I step inside.

AFTER: When I’m doing a load of laundry or grabbing a clean pillowcase, I’m so soothed to be in the laundry room.
