In the two decades since founding their Manhattan firm Roman and Williams in 2002, Robin Standefer and Stephen Alesch have gained acclaim for their ability to translate timeless traditions into a contemporary context, with architecture and interiors rooted in a modern paradigm of craftsmanship and history. In addition to homes for the likes of Gwyneth Paltrow, the husband-and-wife team have set trends with their renowned work on hotels, restaurants, and cultural spaces, from the iconic Boom Boom Room and Le Coucou to London’s Nomad Hotel, The Tin Building, the British Galleries at The Met Museum, and London’s most buzzed about club Maison Estelle. In addition to their original furniture and lighting designs, their very own shop RW Guild, and restaurant La Mercerie, they opened Guild Gallery in 2021 to present dedicated exhibitions of artists and artisans. Projects underway include a Montauk retreat for David Zwirner, hotels in Amsterdam, San Francisco, and NYC, and a ground-up residential building on Gramercy Park.
